What makes an ideal home? The specifics of the perfect for every person would definitely be diverse and dizzying should you choose to consider each and every one of them. However, a (more than cursory, less than critical) look at the details would bring to mind several central ideas, elements and themes that are prevalent and consistent.

Let’s focus on the more tangible physical aspects. The first prevailing requirement for anybody’s perfect home is that it should be big enough. It should be able to accommodate all members of the family comfortably. Some even wish to have enough space to accommodate the occasional guest or two.

The second most important requirement is that it should be complete with all the necessary appliances and furniture that they may need. Specific mention gigantic flat screen TV’s with satellite cable, a home theatre system, top of the line kitchen appliances and all the electronic gadgets conceivable to teen- aged youngsters. What follows among the requirements for a perfect home are what one could call as ‘little luxurious pleasures’ that not only satisfy the homeowners but also make the house more welcoming to guests. Of course there are specifics: a water bed, an indoor fountain, a ventless gas fireplaces, a Jacuzzi…

Going outside the immediate premises of the home, other people want to have swimming pools, gardens and grottos in the yard of their perfect home. Some even dream of having wood burning fireplaces in the cabin somewhere in the ‘wild’ where they will visit every spring.

Of course, all these come after the first ‘real’ requirement of the perfect home- love and peace.
